Watch: Diagnosing a Dead AC Capacitor in Riverview, FL
About this video. An emergency call in Riverview where the AC fan was spinning but the house would not cool. Our tech hooks up gauges, finds the compressor is not starting, measures the run capacitor, confirms it has failed, and replaces it from van stock. The family had cold air again about three hours after they called.

We got a call from this family because last night their AC stopped cooling. Immediately once we get to the house we hook up our gauges and we see that the compressor is not working even though the fan motor is, so that tells us the capacitor is probably the problem. We took some measurements and it was indeed the capacitor. We then go to our van to find a replacement capacitor that is the same size. We always carry all these sorts of parts on our van so we are always equipped for any of these repairs. Once we replaced it, the condenser motor is consuming more than it should, so we recommend replacing it, but the customer only opted for the capacitor at this moment. Only 3 hours after we got the call the customer is back up and running and we go on to the next one.
