Our Story
From Varadero hotels to Tampa homes
Our co-founder, Aridel Morales, started doing HVAC in Cuba in 2005. He worked the big systems — chillers and air handlers in the resort hotels along Varadero’s coast, the kind of equipment most home techs in the U.S. never touch. He fell in love with the trade because HVAC wasn’t just plumbing or just electrical or just refrigeration: it was all three at once, plus building science, plus airflow physics. You couldn’t fake your way through it.
In 2011, Aridel and his family immigrated to Tampa Bay. He kept doing HVAC, but this time on smaller residential systems and in a market where, frankly, a lot of the contractors he saw cut corners. Customers were being told they needed full system replacements when their unit just needed a $79 capacitor. They were being charged $89 just for a tech to show up. Aridel knew there was a better way.
The unlikely Co-Founder
Meanwhile, his son Richard Morales was working as a massage therapist in Tampa. (Yes, really.) Richard had been in the wellness world for years and had built up his own client base. But when Aridel started talking about opening an HVAC company built on doing things right, Richard saw the parallel: both fields were about diagnosing what was actually wrong, treating it correctly, and not selling people things they didn’t need.
In 2017, Richard earned his Florida Class B Air Conditioning Contractor license (CAC1819196), and he and Aridel co-founded the company together. They named it The AC Therapist, a tongue-in-cheek nod to Richard’s previous career, but also a serious statement about how they’d treat customers. Therapy, not transactions.
The third partner was Aridel’s other son, Alejandro “Alex” Morales, coming from a marketing and operations background. The early years were Aridel doing the trade work, Richard handling the HVAC license + technical training, and Alex building the customer-facing systems.
Why “Home Therapist”
A few years in, customers started asking us to handle their plumbing too. Hard water heater anode replacements, polybutylene repipes (Tampa has a lot of that 1978–1995 plastic), drain clogs, slab leaks.
In 2021, Alex earned his Florida Certified Plumbing Contractor license (CFC1431159), so we could be a single-license, single-contract company handling plumbing in-house rather than subcontracting to outside firms. That decision is why every plumbing job we do today is run by an actual licensed FL plumbing contractor (Alex), not a sub.
For about four years we kept doing plumbing under “The AC Therapist” name. But once plumbing was a real fraction of our work, we became Home Therapist Cooling, Heating, and Plumbing in January 2025. Same family, same standards, broader scope.
Today, we’re a 14-person team operating out of our shop at 1408 W Linebaugh Ave in North Tampa. We serve Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco counties — Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Brandon, Riverview, Wesley Chapel, Land O Lakes, Palm Harbor, and 50+ smaller communities in between.
A Hyde Park diagnosis no one else caught
Early on, when we were still The AC Therapist, a Hyde Park homeowner had been quoted by three contractors for a complete $14,000 system replacement. Her 8-year-old AC was “shot,” they said, kept losing refrigerant. The first two contractors had each charged her around $1,500 to “find and seal the leak” and recharge with R-410A, twice in 18 months. The system was burning through a full charge of refrigerant about every 11 months.
When Aridel arrived, he didn’t start by opening up the unit. He listened to it run for ten minutes, checked the indoor coil, walked the lineset, and reached behind the condenser to pop the service caps off the schrader valves. The 3/8″ suction-side valve core had a slow, intermittent seep that no soap-bubble test would catch — the kind of leak that only shows up when the system is fully running and pressurized.
Aridel replaced the valve core, swapped the cap for a sealing-type, recovered and weighed in a proper R-410A charge by the data-plate spec, and ran the system. The leak rate dropped to zero. The bill was $279 plus refrigerant — our standard minimum labor charge on approved repair work, with FREE diagnosis. Her AC ran another six years before she replaced it on her terms.
That’s the difference between selling equipment and diagnosing systems. We learned in Cuba: don’t replace what you can fix.
The Co-Founders & Co-Owner
We’re a family business at the top, with a tight-knit field crew. Every tech who shows up at your door is someone we’d send to our own grandmother’s house.

Aridel Morales
Co-Founder
Aridel co-founded Home Therapist with his son Richard in 2017 after 12+ years in the trade. He started with commercial HVAC in Cuba in 2005: chillers, air handlers, large-equipment work that teaches you to think systemically. Today he runs operations from the Linebaugh shop: dispatching, inventory, training new field techs, and personally inspecting every full-system install.

What Makes Us Different
Every HVAC company writes a paragraph claiming they care about quality. Here’s what’s actually different about how we operate:
FREE estimates & FREE diagnosis
Most Tampa contractors charge $89 just for a tech to show up. We don’t. Our $279 minimum applies only to APPROVED repair work, never to walking in your door.
Same-day service is the standard
Five field techs and the parts to fix the most common failures (capacitors, contactors, condenser fan motors, water heater anodes, thermostats) on the truck.
24/7 emergency dispatch
No hot water on a Sunday at midnight. AC failed during the 2022 freeze. Sewer backing up on Christmas. Real human picks up.
$1M general liability + workers’ comp
Certificate of insurance available before any major install.
We service every brand
We install only what we’d put in our own homes: Goodman + Daikin AC, Rheem water heaters, Rheem + Halo softeners.
Our Standards
- ACCA Manual J load calculations on every install. “Sizing by square footage” is how Tampa ends up with oversized AC units that short-cycle, never dehumidify, and die early.
- Florida Building Code compliance on every permit-required install. No exceptions.
- Salt-air zone protection on coastal installs. If you’re within 2 miles of the Gulf or Hillsborough Bay, your outdoor unit needs different treatment.
- R-454B refrigerant transition. 2026+ new equipment uses R-454B. Existing R-410A serviceable through 2030+. We’ll tell you straight.
- Continuing education. Every full-time field tech does 8+ hours of manufacturer training annually.
