Rooftop AC Compressor Replacement at a Brandon Medical Clinic

This job took us to a medical clinic in Brandon with a failed compressor in one of the rooftop units. Commercial compressor swaps are heavy, technical work, here is what it takes to do one right.

The rooftop unit had two compressors, and the first stage compressor, the one that kicks on first, had failed. The replacement compressor weighed close to 100 pounds, so getting it up to the roof was the first challenge. Once it was up there, we pulled the old compressor and purged the copper lines with nitrogen to push out any oil and debris. We installed a new filter drier, dropped in the new compressor, and soldered everything into place.

Then came the steps that separate a lasting repair from a callback: we checked for leaks, pulled a vacuum to remove any moisture from the system, and recharged it with R410A refrigerant. The unit was cooling before we left.

Why the small steps matter on a compressor job

Anyone can drop in a new compressor. The nitrogen purge, the new filter drier, the leak check, and the vacuum are what keep moisture and contaminants out of the system so the new compressor does not fail early. Skipping them is why some compressor replacements do not last. For a business, a properly done repair means you are not shutting down again next month.
