Clearwater (ZIPs 33755, 33756, 33759-33765, 33767) spans coastal-facing Island Estates, Morningside, and Downtown Clearwater plus inland Countryside. Coastal-facing homes get heavy salt-air exposure that corrodes outdoor AC coils within 4 to 6 seasons. We install Goodman Value and Daikin Fit heat pumps with E-coated coastal coils for beach-facing properties and standard coils inland. Heat pumps cut the heating-mode Duke Energy bill 60 to 70 percent on cold-snap days versus electric strip heat. FREE in-home estimate. FREE diagnosis on every visit.

A straight AC with 10 kW electric resistance backup costs $5,800 to $9,200 installed and handles cold snaps but at much higher operating cost. Electric resistance uses roughly 3 to 5 times the kWh of an inverter heat pump for the same heating output. Across Tampa Bay's 30 to 60 hours of real heating demand each winter on Duke Energy rates, that math compounds.
A modern variable-speed heat pump runs $7,800 to $14,800 installed but cuts the heating-mode Duke Energy bill 60 to 70 percent on those 7 to 30 cold days per year. Clearwater has TECO Peoples Gas service throughout, so dual-fuel heat pumps with gas-furnace backup are an option for owners who want maximum cold-snap capacity. Most owners do fine with all-electric variable-speed. The heat pump pays back in 4 to 6 years through bill savings. IRA HEEHRA federal credits up to $2,000 and Duke Energy rebates of $300 to $450 per ton stack on top.
Island Estates and Morningside addresses within 1 mile of the Intracoastal or Gulf see continuous chloride deposition that strips standard aluminum fin coatings inside 4 to 6 cooling seasons. The condenser coil pinholes long before the compressor wears out. We default to E-coated or blue-fin coastal-grade coils on every coastal Clearwater heat pump install (Goodman GSZC18 with optional coastal coating, Daikin Fit DZ20VC with factory E-coating), which extends coil life to 12 to 15 years on the same exposure. Inland Countryside installs can use standard coils with normal expected lifespan.
Coastal coating add: $185 to $385. Saves $4,000 in premature condenser replacement.
Downtown Clearwater and Morningside have many 1950s through 1970s slab homes with small thermostat differentials and original return paths that can short-cycle a poorly-installed heat pump in defrost mode. Modern variable-speed heat pumps run defrost cycles on demand, not on a fixed timer, which prevents the cold-air complaint that turns owners off the technology. We commission every defrost circuit at install with a real cold-weather test on the first sub-50-degree night after install.
On-demand defrost eliminates the cold-air-in-heat complaint of older heat pumps.
Clearwater coastal zones fall inside the FBC 2023 high-velocity wind zone (130 to 140 mph design speeds). Outdoor condensers must be hurricane-strapped to engineered concrete pads with manufacturer-specified anchors. We pull Pinellas County mechanical permits at the County Annex Building and schedule the inspection. Inspection turnaround runs 5 to 10 business days. Pinellas insurance carriers verify permits after every storm claim.
FBC 1609 hurricane straps + Pinellas County permit included on every install.

Effective January 1, 2026, every residential heat pump sold in the United States ships with R-454B refrigerant instead of R-410A. R-454B has a 78 percent lower global warming potential and is mildly flammable (A2L classification), which requires updated installer training, leak detection sensors on indoor air handlers, and refrigerant line sets sized to the new specification. Every Clearwater heat pump we install uses R-454B compliant Goodman or Daikin Fit equipment installed to the new ASHRAE 15.2 safety standard. R-410A equipment is still legal to service but new equipment supply is tightening.
Wondering whether to keep an older heat pump going or upgrade to R-454B? Call (813) 343-2212 for a FREE estimate. We run the real numbers, no high pressure.

Heat pump installation in Clearwater costs $5,000 to $12,000 depending on system size, brand tier, and infrastructure condition. Coastal properties may benefit from corrosion-resistant upgrades. Older homes with outdated ductwork and panels fall toward the upper end. Home Therapist provides free estimates with detailed pricing for every Clearwater project.
A: A heat pump and an AC both cool your home the same way, but a heat pump can reverse the process to provide heating in winter. A traditional AC uses electric heat strips for warmth, which are expensive to run. In Clearwater, where winter lows are mild, a heat pump handles heating far more efficiently because it moves heat instead of generating it. For concrete block homes in Pinellas County, a heat pump is the most energy-efficient option for year-round comfort.
A: Heat pump installation in Clearwater typically costs $5,500 to $12,000 depending on the size, efficiency rating, and any ductwork modifications needed. concrete block homes from the 1950s to 1990s with existing ductwork in good condition are on the lower end. High-efficiency models cost more upfront but save significantly on your Duke Energy bill over the system’s life. We offer financing options and provide free estimates for all Clearwater homeowners.
A: Heat pumps in Florida typically last 12 to 16 years. Because they run year-round for both cooling and heating, regular maintenance is critical. In Clearwater, where salt air from the Gulf adds environmental stress and systems work hard through long summers, well-maintained heat pumps outperform neglected ones by years. Our maintenance plans include two visits per year to keep your heat pump running at peak efficiency.
A: Absolutely. Clearwater’s winter temperatures rarely drop below 40 degrees, which is well within a heat pump’s optimal operating range. A heat pump is 2 to 3 times more efficient than electric heat strips at these temperatures. For concrete block homes in Clearwater, a heat pump provides comfortable, even heating without the high Duke Energy bills that come with strip heat. On the rare nights below 35 degrees, the backup heat strips kick in automatically.
A: We install Goodman as our Value and Premium tier and Daikin as our Elite tier. Both brands offer reliable heat pump models designed for Florida’s climate. Daikin’s inverter technology is especially efficient for Clearwater homeowners looking to maximize savings on their Duke Energy bill. Goodman provides excellent performance at a more accessible price point. We recommend the best option based on your home and budget.
A: Heat pump sizing follows the same principles as AC sizing, roughly 1 ton per 500 square feet in Florida, adjusted for your home’s specific characteristics. In Clearwater, where concrete block homes from the 1950s to 1990s vary in insulation quality and ductwork condition, we perform a Manual J load calculation. Proper sizing prevents short-cycling in cooling mode and ensures adequate heating output when temperatures drop.
A: Yes, we provide emergency heat pump repair in Clearwater and across Pinellas County. Heat pumps can fail in both cooling and heating mode, and in Florida summer, a broken system is an emergency. We service Clearwater Beach, Sand Key, Countryside and surrounding areas with typical response times of 1 to 3 hours. Our trucks carry common parts so most heat pump repairs are completed in a single visit.
A: Twice a year in Florida, once before summer and once before winter. Because a heat pump handles both cooling and heating, it works year-round and needs attention in both seasons. In Clearwater, where salt air from the Gulf wears on outdoor components, the spring service is especially important for cleaning coils and checking refrigerant. Our Therapy Maintenance Plan covers both visits with priority scheduling for Clearwater homeowners.
A: Call us at (813) 343-2212 or book online at hometherapist.pro for a free in-home estimate. We will assess your current system, calculate the right size for your Clearwater home, and give you upfront pricing with financing options. Whether you are in Clearwater Beach, Sand Key, Countryside or anywhere in Pinellas County, we will help you decide if a heat pump is the right investment for your home.
A: Yes, we cover every Clearwater neighborhood (ZIPs 33755, 33756, 33759 through 33765, 33767), including Clearwater Beach, Island Estates, Countryside, Downtown Clearwater, Morningside, and the streets near Pier 60, the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, and Ruth Eckerd Hall. Average response time from our Tampa shop is about 50 to 60 minutes via Courtney Campbell Causeway or Veterans Expressway. We hold emergency heat pump capacity 7 days a week.
A: Same-day heat pump repair in Clearwater is standard for our shop. We carry common capacitors, contactors, reversing valves, defrost boards, and fan motors on the truck. Specialty variable-speed control boards or full compressor replacements may require a 1 to 3 day parts order. For full installs we typically pull Pinellas County permits within 1 to 2 business days and install within 5 to 7 days.
A: We make the call address by address on the free estimate. Homes within 1 mile of the Gulf or Intracoastal (most of Clearwater Beach, Island Estates, and Morningside) get coastal coating by default. Inland Countryside addresses 3 plus miles from open water can typically run a standard coil with normal expected lifespan. The coastal coating adds $185 to $385 to the install but extends coil life from 4 to 6 seasons to 12 to 15 years on the same exposure, so it pays back many times over where it is needed.
A: Yes. Pinellas County requires a mechanical permit on every heat pump install or full-system replacement. We pull the permit at the County Annex Building, schedule the inspection, and meet the inspector. Coastal Clearwater falls inside the FBC 2023 wind zone (130 to 140 mph design speeds) so condenser pads require hurricane straps and engineered anchors. We honor Goodman and Daikin manufacturer warranties (and service Carrier, Lennox, Trane, Rheem brands) when we install or service the equipment, plus a 1-year parts and labor warranty on every install.
A: Yes. The diagnosis is genuinely FREE in Clearwater. We do not charge a diagnostic fee, a coastal trip charge, or a service-call fee for heat pump evaluation. The $279 minimum applies only to APPROVED repair labor after you have authorized the work. If you decide not to proceed, you owe nothing for the diagnosis. New install estimates are also free, and we provide written fixed-price quotes before any work starts.
