Clawfoot Tub Shower Conversion with Exposed Thermostatic Valve
Many Seminole Heights historic bungalows still have original cast iron clawfoot tubs that the current owners want to preserve while gaining functional shower use. The clawfoot conversion approach: wraparound oval or D-shape curtain rod attached to the ceiling, a riser pipe up to a wall-mount or ceiling-mount showerhead, an exposed thermostatic mixing valve (FBC 2023 P2722 compliant, max 120 degrees F at the head) in a finish that matches the bungalow aesthetic (polished chrome, polished nickel, or oil-rubbed bronze from Kohler, Watermark, Newport Brass, or Strom Plumbing), and a heavy-duty curtain liner system. Plumbing portion runs $785 to $1,485 installed depending on whether existing supply lines can be reused. If the supply lines are galvanized (very likely on a 1925 bungalow), we strongly recommend combined PEX-A repipe at the same time, adding $1,200 to $2,500 to the project for full bungalow shower bathroom restoration in the $2,000 to $4,000 range.
