Two minutes of checks can save a visit, or keep a small problem from getting bigger.
- Thermostat: set to Cool and a few degrees below the room temperature, with fresh batteries.
- Breaker: if the AC breaker tripped, reset it once. If it trips again, leave it off.
- Filter: if it is gray and packed with dust, change it.
- Ice on the copper lines or the indoor coil: set the system to off and the fan to on so it thaws.
- After a power outage: wait at least 3 minutes before turning the AC back on so the compressor does not start against high pressure.
Do not open the outdoor unit or the electrical panel yourself.

Do you charge more for nights, weekends or emergencies?

What counts as an AC emergency?
No cooling when the house is getting dangerously hot, especially with babies, older relatives, someone sick or pets at home; water leaking from the air handler or a ceiling vent; a burning smell; or a breaker that keeps tripping.
Can you fix my AC tonight?
Often. Most AC failures we find are small parts our trucks carry, such as a drain line, a float switch, a capacitor or refrigerant. We give you an arrival window when you call. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you up front.
What should I do while I wait?
Check that the thermostat is on Cool with fresh batteries, reset a tripped breaker once, and change a clogged filter. If there is ice on the lines or water at the air handler, turn the system off and run only the fan.
What is the 3 minute rule for an AC?
Wait at least 3 minutes after the AC shuts off, or after power comes back from an outage, before turning it back on. That lets the refrigerant pressures even out so the compressor does not start under strain.
Should I turn my AC off if water is leaking?
Yes. Turn it off at the thermostat so the drain pan does not overflow into the ceiling, and call us. A clogged drain line is the usual cause, and a flush is $279.
