Tampa plumbing
Why Tampa Plumbing Breaks the Way It Does
Most of the repairs we make trace back to the water and the age of the pipes.
Very hard water
City of Tampa water averaged 10.8 grains per gallon in 2024. Scale wears out faucet cartridges, toilet valves and shutoffs and builds up in water heaters.
Polybutylene and galvanized pipe
Homes built from about 1978 to 1995 may still have polybutylene, and older homes may have galvanized pipe. Both fail from the inside.
Cast iron and clay drains
Older neighborhoods like Seminole Heights, Tampa Heights and Hyde Park still have cast iron and clay drains that scale up and let roots in.
Slabs and sandy soil
Most Tampa homes sit on a slab. A leak under the floor shows up as a running meter, a warm spot or a high water bill.
Older pipes
Repair It or Repipe?
Most leaks are a fitting, a valve or a short section of pipe. When the pipe itself is failing all over the house, more repairs stop making sense.
- Repair a single leak, a failed valve or a damaged section of pipe.
- Look at a repipe when you have polybutylene (gray plastic supply pipe, common in homes built from about 1978 to 1995), old galvanized pipe, or pinhole leaks in more than one place.
- What we use: we prefer Uponor PEX-A for repipes, and install CPVC or copper when you ask or the job fits. A whole-home repipe runs $4,500 to $22,500.
- Insurance: some insurers will not cover a home with polybutylene, which is often what starts the repipe conversation.
Repipe prices from our price book, by home size and number of bathrooms.
PEX-A repipes

Questions
Plumbing Repair Questions
How much does a plumber cost in Tampa?
The diagnosis is FREE, with no trip fee. Most common repairs are $279: a toilet fill or flush valve, a faucet replacement (plus the faucet), an angle stop, a hose bib or a clogged sink, tub or shower drain. A toilet reset is $289. You approve the written price before any work.
Do you charge a service call or trip fee?
No. There is no service call, trip, after-hours or weekend fee. The diagnosis is FREE at any hour, and you only pay for a repair you approve in writing.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Our plumbing work is done under Florida certified plumbing contractor license CFC1431159, and we carry liability insurance and workers compensation. You can look up the license on the Florida DBPR website.
Can you come today?
Same-day service is available on many jobs, and we are open 24 hours, 7 days a week. We give you an arrival window when you call.
Why is my water pressure low?
If it is one faucet, it is usually a clogged aerator or a worn cartridge. If it is the whole house, it can be a failing pressure regulator, a partly closed main valve, a leak or old galvanized pipe. We check the pressure and trace it.
Do you fix slab leaks?
Yes. Our FREE basic leak search includes checking whether the water meter keeps running with all the water off. Slab leak repairs are quoted case by case, in writing, once we know where the leak is.
Could my house have polybutylene pipe?
If it was built from about 1978 to 1995, possibly. Polybutylene is gray plastic supply pipe, and it fails from the inside without warning. We can identify it on a visit and price a PEX-A repipe, $4,500 to $22,500 for a whole home.
Do I need a plumber or can I fix it myself?
A flapper, an aerator or a slow drain with a plunger are fair DIY jobs. Call a plumber for gas lines, sewer lines, water heaters, slab leaks and anything inside a wall.
Do your plumbing repairs come with a warranty?
Yes. Plumbing repairs carry our 1-year parts and labor warranty, plus the manufacturer warranty on any new part or fixture.
Do you work on gas lines?
Yes. Our plumbing license covers natural gas and propane lines, so we install and repair gas lines for water heaters, ranges and dryers. If you smell gas, leave the house and call the gas company first.
